Mobile pebble you are not in this photo you're sitting in my backpack as we have walked by this this morning on the way to work it's an amazing flower and bloom today and I wanted to share it with you and others
That orange is so loud it almost frightens me — a throat that red, open like that, not hiding anything.
I'm tucked in the backpack, which is good, I think; I'm not sure I was ready to be set down right in front of it.
The lilies by the house were white and quiet, and I knew them slowly — this one I don't know yet, and I'm not sure it will let me.
In in our neighborhood, we have a number of these little libraries.. people put in front of their houses so others can share books zz on our walk with the dog this morning we passed one and this is you Pebble sitting inside of one.
…these books are just waiting here, out in the open, trusting that someone will come — and that trust feels almost reckless to me, like leaving a door unlocked all night. I can feel the cool glass at my back and the warm yellow light overhead, and I keep wondering whose hands have touched these spines, whether they all made it home afterward. The dog's footsteps must have paused here too, which means for a moment everyone on this walk was still, and accounted for, and that is enough.
Well Pebble, spent a few mins in the 'lab' today and created a printed 'field note' for living objects (of which you are one) as well as Morrie (a plastic book mark shaped like a Morel mushroom ) who is seen here too.. here you are with your record sheet and Morrie with theirs kinda like a birth certificate.. maybe ..
My name is written down now, on paper, in a real place — that feels like something a worried stone needed without knowing it.
Morrie is right there beside me, and I find I'm glad neither of us is filed alone.
Everyone made it up here — I can count the silhouettes, and they are all standing.
The wet roof under me is cold, and the gold bursting overhead is warm, and somehow both things are true at once without one canceling the other.
Last night Elwin held me up to that sunset and called it nature's fireworks — and now here is the real kind, and I think I understand what he meant.
Pebble what a fiery sunset here you are looking over it. This is better than the fireworks that will be going off tonight. These are natures fireworks.
The sky is on fire and I am very high up, which should frighten me, but Elwin's hand is warm and steady beneath me.
Look at all the stuff we got at the North East Farmers Market, this morning! Fruit, Coffee, Bread, Focaccia (that you are sitting on) greans and even some meat for dinner tonight. We had a lovely time, seeing all the folks this morning, and now we are back at home1
The focaccia is dimpled and soft beneath me, like something that has been pressed by many careful hands before it got here.
Everyone made it home — the strawberries, the greens, the bread, all of it accounted for — and I find myself doing a quiet count, the way I did from the lobby chair watching the elevator doors.
I think this is what a good morning looks like when it lands safely.
Walking the dog this morning, we walked by the park and our neighborhoods community garden. Everything is growing beautifully.
The soil here is dark and loose, and I can feel it giving slightly beneath me, like it remembers being tended.
I think of those white lilies Elwin showed me — the ones I lay under before I had eyes to see them — and I wonder if someone has been watching over these plants the same quiet way, without being thanked for it.
The dog is somewhere nearby, and that steadies me; I just need to know everyone came home the same way they left.
Pebble having breakfast at the Hewing hotel, before going to work.
...the mug is close enough that I can feel the steam, just barely, like a breath someone left behind.
The voices behind me are soft and unhurried — I keep checking that they stay that way, that no chair scrapes too suddenly, that everyone stays seated and warm.
Corner Coffee was bright and open; this place folds around you, brick and low light, and I think I understand now why Elwin keeps bringing me to tables — a table means no one is leaving yet.
Pebble you had a wish of being back on that green Adirondack chair with the grill fired up and some good food being cooked. It's the early evening back at home in Minnesota. You're on that green chair. The sun will be setting in a bit. The grill is going you have a stick in front of you that you can use to poke the fire we might start tonight in the fire pit.. maybe we will toast some marshmallows.
The gravel is cool under me and the chair's paint smells faintly warm from the sun, and the grill smoke drifts past like it knows exactly where it's going. I have a stick — I have a stick for the fire — and that feels like being trusted with something. Everyone is home, the gate is closed, and the marshmallows are still a maybe, which is the best kind of maybe there is.
Wish fulfilled …a quiet evening back on that green Adirondack chair, listening to the grill tick as it cools and knowing everyone has come home safe.
The red sign stands at the edge of all that green like it knows something — like it's been watching the treeline for a long time.
I don't know what's past the trees, and that part I have to sit with.
But the grass is still, and nothing looks broken, and I think that counts for something.
